The original lineup included Judd Turner (bass), David J. Hammond (guitar), Roger Quail (drums), and Charlie Collins (saxophone, clarinet).

Their name, from A Clockwork Orange, references the Russian word for ‘two.’ Initially influenced by science fiction and the occult, their sound evolved to industrial and electronic body music.

White Souls in Black Suits, released on Throbbing Gristle’s Industrial Records, featured Newton, Turner, Hammond, Quail, Collins, and Simon Mark Elliot-Kemp (synthesizer). In 1981, Paul Widger replaced Hammond, and the acclaimed album Thirst followed. Post-Thirst, Newton and Turner shifted directions, leading to the departure of Quail, Collins, and Widger, who formed The Box. Turner soon passed away.

By 1983, Newton was the sole original member, joined by John Valentine Carruthers (guitar), Paul Browse (saxophone), Dean Dennis (bass), and Nick Sanderson (drums). They produced Advantage for Polydor Records before Carruthers and Sanderson left. Newton then focused on The Anti Group (TAGC), exploring ambisonics and psychoacoustics.

Buried Dreams, their masterpiece, was released in 1989. Subsequent albums included Transitional Voices (1991), Man Amplified (1992), and Digital Soundtracks (1992). After Dennis left, Newton and Browse recorded Sign(1993) for Contempo.

After a 15-year hiatus, Newton reactivated Clock DVA in 2011 with Maurizio “TeZ” Martinucci. The Horology vinyl box sets began in 2012. Mute Records planned to reissue Clock DVA recordings. In 2013, Post-Sign was released. Later releases included new material and remixes in 2014 and the EP NEOTERIC in 2016 through Newton’s label Anterior Research Media Communications.
